Family Information and FOPHS News Friday 26th September 2025
Welcome to 网红黑料社 School's Family Liaison Blog!
26.09.25
The departmental coffee and catch ups are underway, with 2 taking place this week.
We don鈥檛 always have high numbers of parents attending; some don鈥檛 drive, others work or have other children to pick up. If this is you, we would like to hear from you if you have suggestions.
I should also mention that I offer drop-in sessions on a Thursday/Friday although they are bookable. I feel this is better, as it means parents aren鈥檛 waiting around. I also ask that parents complete a short form to help me prepare for the meeting.

Events
The events calendar is still being updated, with MOVE, FoPHS dates and social coffee events to be confirmed.
This year I would like to offer parents/carers the opportunity to see the MOVE-ing in a Christmas Wonderland rather than the summer event and have agreed this with our wonderful, creative MOVE team. I will finalise my social coffee events once this is done.
Below are links to the term dates and the events calendars.

Online Safety
The link to the Online safety information can be found on the school website under the heading 鈥淧arent and carers area鈥, then 鈥渙nline safety鈥 from the dropdown menu.

For any of our families who use the family fund grant for holidays, this will be of interest. As of 1st October 2025, the changes being brought in ensure that this grant, which is funded by the Department for Education is not used for holidays in the school term.
See below and on the link for more information:
Are you thinking of applying for a grant for a family break? If you live in England, and your break is funded by the SFDC programme, then changes are coming in place for breaks booked after 1 October 2025

Social Care:
This is probably the subject I am most frequently asked about, usually following a parent visit. You will find information on our preparation for Adulthood resources below.
Many parents, past and present have told me that when they request an assessment of their young person鈥檚 social care needs their experience is often negative. Some have had a negative experience when asking for help. Often, this is a call handler, so please do not be put off if you think your child/young person needs support.
I receive emails from Contact, so thought this one worth sharing. There鈥檚 also a petition on Post 16 school transport.
Did you know that The Law Commission has recommended radical reform of Disabled Children鈥檚 Social Care laws? Contact-for families of disabled children emailed the following:
There鈥檚 a lot going on at the moment isn鈥檛 there? It can be hard to follow what鈥檚 happening and ways that you can get involved, so we鈥檝e put together a brief Campaigner鈥檚 Summary of last week鈥檚 events for you.
Law Commission recommends radical reform of disabled children鈥檚 social care lawThe听Law Commission has published its听听which calls for a new legal framework, national eligibility criteria and a legal duty to assess and meet the needs of disabled children. How you can get involvedJoin us in our call to the government to implement the reform. Use and urge the government to accept the reforms and implement them swiftly. The Government now has up to six months to provide an initial response to the Law Commission鈥檚 recommendations and up to a year to provide a full response which includes which law reforms they plan to take forward.

Activities
Thumbelina: Relaxed performance. Ponteland. 7th November 7pm

I have been contacted by this group with an offer of free tickets, very specifically for 1 child/young person and 1 carer. If this is of interest, please contact me. As they are free and a limited number, I will check with them that tickets booked have been used. This is a lovely offer and heartwarming to see how they have considered appropriate adaptation for those with sensory needs.

鈥淧onteland Repertory Society is a local amateur dramatics group. This year our Winter pantomime is Thumbelina, and we would like to extend an invitation to the users of your organisation. We plan to run a relaxed performance as one of our dress rehearsals, including lowered stage- and sound-effects, house lights on throughout and a quieter space available for use if needed. We are also looking into the possibility of sensory kits to loan for the show, depending on cost and availability.
The relaxed performance would be at 7pm
on Tuesday 11th November this year, at Ponteland Memorial Hall, and we
would like to offer your organisation 10
pairs of tickets (1 user plus a parent/guardian/carer). These tickets are free of charge – all I ask is that those using them email me their names for a check at the door. I will leave the division/allocation of the tickets to your discretion in a way which fits your organisation.
please let me know if you’re interested (or not, in which case I can open the offer to other organisations) so I know how many to expect.鈥

Christmas cards:
For a few years now we have worked with IQ, a Parentkind vendor to provide Christmas/Holiday cards. Students draw or create their design, which is used for Christmas cards, keyrings, wrapping paper and more. We do it early as printing demands are higher as Christmas approaches and can be delayed. This has been a popular activity, especially for our younger students.听 Want to know more? Here鈥檚 the link:
Hopefully, you have received your child鈥檚 design. Orders were due in today. If you only received your child鈥檚 design today and can get the order and payment to me by Monday 29th September, I should be able to include them. Thanks for your support and I hope you love them.
100 Club:
Just a reminder to consider joining our 100 club. If we could get 100 people to take 1 number at 拢12 for the year and entry into 12 draws to win a percentage of the takings as follows:
50% to FoPHS
50% divided by 12 for each winner or:
If we have 100 subscribers
FoPHS receives 拢600.
Each winner receives 拢50.
The first 6 draws will be done in January or at the AGM once organised.
You can pay by cash, BACS, Cheque or QR code.
